Welcome to Another Year at Edison!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to another great year at Edison School.  Edison teachers and support staff are dedicated to providing your child with outstanding learning experiences in a safe and caring environment.  Last year was a very successful year at Edison.  Our SBAC English Language Arts scores increased by 14%.  Our SBAC Math scores increased by 21%.  We had the second highest SBAC growth of all elementary schools!  This year we will continue to work hard to make sure your child achieves.  You are an important partner in your child's education - we need your support.  There are several things you can do to help your child have a successful learning year.

Frequently communicate with your child’s teacher.  Know what your child is learning in class.  Ask your child’s teacher how you can help at home.  Make sure your child has a quiet place to do his/her homework.  Make sure your child reads every night for at least 30 minutes.  The more your child reads, the better reader, writer and speaker he/she will be!

Attend all school events such as Back to School Night, parent conferences, parent workshops and Open House.

Make sure your child comes to school every day and on time.  Regular and punctual attendance is critical to your child’s success at school.  Plan family vacations during vacations.  If your child is absent, call the office on the day of the absence and send a note to school when he/she returns.

Please consider becoming a VIPs - Volunteer in Public Schools.  We welcome volunteers in the classroom and at school events.  This year our goal is to sign up at least 50% of our parents as VIPs.  Please help us reach our goal.  Applications are available in the office.

This year Edison will follow a traditional calendar schedule.  We will have a one week Thanksgiving break, a two week Winter break and a one week Spring break.  The last day of school will be June 14.

I’m looking forward to another great year at Edison.  Thank you for helping us “light the path to the future!”

With Appreciation,

E. Garcia, Principal

Attendance is Key to Success

Consistent Attendance is Key to Your Child’s Success in School

It’s important to make daily attendance a habit.  When a student misses a day of school, he or she misses out on important instruction that cannot be made up with homework.  Every day’s learning builds on what students learned the day before.  When a child misses a lesson, he or she also misses a critical building block.  That can lead to difficulties for the next several days and even weeks.  So get in the attendance habit.  Know that when you send you child to school you are helping him or her for today, tomorrow and the rest of his or her school career.

Special Notice to Parents and Guardians

Parent and visitor parking is available on Daisy Ave. and 7th Street.  Parking in the Daisy and Maine lots is for school and District staff only.  There is no student drop off or pick allowed in the Maine parking lot.  The Maine parking lot gate must be kept clear to allow for emergency vehicle access to the school.  Vehicles blocking the gate or illegally parked on 7th Street may be cited or towed.

Due to ongoing safety and storage concerns, Edison students may not bring scooters to school.  We ask parents to not allow their child to bring a scooter to school.  Bike parking is available at the end of the Maine parking lot.  Per state law, students riding bikes must wear a helmet.
